$17 million over five years for the Hôtel Universel Rivière-du-Loup

$17 million over five years for the Hôtel Universel Rivière-du-Loup

July 6, 2017

It is well known that the tourism industry in Rivière-du-Loup has grown exponentially over the past ten years. And all tourism products are growing: traditional summer tourism, corporate, winter, and sport tourism, but above all convention tourism products, which have become the motor, the trademark of our city. As such, thanks to the collaboration of hotel partners, Tourisme Rivière-du-Loup and Tourisme Bas-St-Laurent, over the years Rivière-du-Loup has become the driving force for the Bas-St-Laurent-Gaspésie tourism industry.

Since 2006, our hotel has been an ongoing construction site. More than $15 million have already been invested. Consequently, our hotel has experienced exponential growth. Our occupation rate continually increases, and after extensive and careful consideration, and to meet growing demand, we have concluded that we need to expand our infrastructure. Our development plan is set for a period of five years over three phases.

Phase I: In the spring of 2017 the construction of 80 new corporate-style rooms added to the current building and a penthouse with terrace on the 7th floor. This will bring our total number rooms to 301, a magical number. A project valued at over $8 million.

Phase II: June 2020 – 5,400 square foot expansion of the convention centre, which will bring its surface area up to 16,600 square feet. We will become the largest convention centre in Quebec behind only Montreal, Quebec City and Gatineau. A project valued at $6 million.

Phase III: September 2022 – expansion of the La Verrière restaurant, increasing its capacity from 110 to 230 people. New concept, new design, new name. A project valued at $3 million.

A PROJECT TOTALING $17 MILLION

Clearly, this project will have huge economic benefits not only for Rivière-du-Loup's tourism industry but also for retail business in general. This project is also a response to requests from our local companies, who are continually growing, like Premier Tech, who have motived us to expand.

Evidently this project will create many jobs. By itself, Phase I will create about twenty new jobs.

Now imagine the future of Rivière-du-Loup with this new infrastructure. We are already growing fast, but with this project we will grow even faster.

There is no better way to prove once again that Rivière-du-Loup is the top entrepreneurial city in Canada!
