Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole : The planned relaunch of business tourism has started

Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole : The planned relaunch of business tourism has started

May 24, 2018

The opening of the Convention Centre mi-November 2017 marked the relaunch of business tourism in Saint-Hyacinthe. The difficulties of the past years due to the closing of the Hôtel des Seigneurs in 2013, are ending and Saint-Hyacinthe is on the way to becoming once again the most important regional business destination in Quebec.

Thanks to this new infrastructure, Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole believes it can bring back the number of major business events to a level higher than 80 per year and as such allow the community to profit from the more than $4 million in direct income (in 2017, there were 14 events that generated $362,680 in economic spin-offs).

To reach this goal, the organisation is relying on the Saint-Hyacinthe's competitive advantages which are the newness of the Convention Centre/Sheraton Hotel, the exhibit pavilions in the Espace Saint-Hyacinthe, the proximity to major urban centres, the accessibility and multifunctionality of the offer for overnight stays, meals, meeting spaces and entertainment. All at a reasonable price.

One other major advantage for event organisers is the support provided by the teams at Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole, including the new Tourist Information Office located inside the Convention Centre. "Participants will be able to access information that will make them want to come back for another business event or for leisure travel", noted Nancy Lambert, Manager or Tourism and Conventions with Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole.

A Concrete Strategy

In collaboration with Espace Saint-Hyacinthe and the Convention Centre, Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole has taken major steps in 2017 to implement a new prospection, development and promotion strategy for Saint-Hyacinthe as a business destination, which includes an increased presence in trade shows to present the strengths of the region, a new edition of the brochure "Saint-Hyacinthe: Un monde d'affaires", and active participation in specialised networks. It also relies on its partners in their efforts to attract clients, purchasing advertisements to position Saint-Hyacinthe and the new Convention Centre and energetically and efficiently working with organisers.

Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole can also count on its Cercle des Ambassadeurs, which was launched in 2017. It has already provided results. In fact, five major events and conventions have been confirmed over the last few weeks thanks to their work. These events represent almost 1,500 overnight stays and will generate direct expenditures of close to $500,000. About 20 other bids have been presented by Saint-Hyacinthe with organisers for future events.

"These influential, involved and connected personalities from the community are the perfect people to ensure Saint-Hyacinthe is at the top of the list of destinations for business meetings," proudly noted Nancy Lambert.
