The construction of the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Centre and the Sheraton® Hotel has officially started

The construction of the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Centre and the Sheraton® Hotel has officially started

September 27, 2016

The City of Saint-Hyacinthe and the Beauward Shopping Centre have officially started the construction work for a new convention centre and a Sheraton Hotel. With this more than $65 million project, Saint-Hyacinthe expects to reposition itself as one of the top destinations for conventions by the start of 2018. It is targeting regional, provincial and North American markets, and aims at attracting associative, corporate, sport and social groups. With this new convention centre, the City hopes to hold more than 100 major events bringing together 75,000 attendees.

“Saint-Hyacinthe will be able to use this powerful economic tool to relaunch its economy. It will return to its position as a major player with this exceptional complex, which will also be the pride of local and regional residents. Thanks to the participation of many partners from our community, we will once again play a major role in business tourism,” indicated Mr. Claude Corbeil, mayor of Saint-Hyacinthe, during a press conference announcing the official ground-breaking for the project.

The concept for the Convention Centre retained by Saint-Hyacinthe is based on a close analysis of the market. It will include 63,000 square feet of exhibit space and will offer up to 36 meeting rooms. With a 25,000 square foot main hall, which can accommodate up to 2,500 people in banquet format, the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Centre will have a the largest high class meeting room in Quebec outside of major urban centres. This building will be supplied with renewable natural gas locally produced by the city. It will also have a green roof offering a peaceful location for convention attendees.

The project also includes the construction of the 205 room Sheraton Hotel Saint-Hyacinthe. It will include 27 suites and specifically offers direct access to the new convention centre and to the Galeries St-Hyacinthe. The hotel also includes an indoor pool with patio, indoor parking with 190 spots and outdoor parking with 700 spots. Finally, it also has 4,000 square feet of meeting and event rooms.

For the Vice President, Development of the Beauward Shopping Centre and manager of the Sheraton Hotel Saint-Hyacinthe project, Mr. André Fortin, all the ingredients are in place to ensure that this ambitious project is a success. “The combination of the collaboration efforts between the City of Saint-Hyacinthe and Beauward for the new convention centre, which has partnered with the prestigious Sheraton® brand for the construction of a high class hotel, and the decision to use a single operator, the same one that coordinates the activities of Espace Saint-Hyacinthe, will allow Saint-Hyacinthe to stand out in a very competitive business tourism market,” affirmed Mr. Fortin.

Indeed, the convention centre and hotel will also be located close to Espace Saint-Hyacinthe, which will increase the capacity for hosting events and attendees. Thanks to this synergy, Saint-Hyacinthe will have the largest expo centre outside of Montreal and Quebec City, with 166,000 square feet of available space. These three organisations have chosen to use a common operator to promote and efficiently coordinate the different services to facilitate client experience.  It will offer event organisers a single contact point for holding events at the convention centre, the Sheraton Hotel and Espace Saint-Hyacinthe.

Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole will also be a leading actor in the promotion of the destination. As of today, it is possible to communicate with the managers of the Saint-Hyacinthe convention centre and the Sheraton Hotel in order to book dates for a future convention. You can contact them at (450) 252-7988 or by email at info@congresst-hyacinthe.ca.

To complement attendees’ stays, the Saint-Hyacinthe region offers different cultural, outdoor and agro-tourism activities. There are many different choices for entertainment as well, as the region abounds with concert halls, microbreweries, vineyards and gourmet restaurants. Saint-Hyacinthe also offers an excellent shopping experience at one of its three commercial poles. And visitors should not miss out on a stop in the downtown core, which is one of the prettiest in Quebec. It offers a great mix of the past and the present, culture and the passion of local residents.
